While the Anaheim Angels’ baseball season will be winding down, things at the soon-to-open Karl Strauss Brewing Company’s satellite brewery and brewpub, which will open August 22 across from Angel Stadium, are just beginning to gear up. The Anaheim location increases the company’s brewing infrastructure to 10 brewery locations in southern California, including its main production brewery in Pacific Beach, California.
Karl Strauss Brewmaster Matt Johnson said this brewery will help expand the small-batch program at the brewery to help give freedom to its brewers to experiment.
Such experimentation has led to beers such as Aurora Hoppyalis, a 2015 GABF Bronze medalist, or Mosaic Session IPA, which has garnered multiple regional and national awards.
“Our satellite systems … [have] proven very helpful in landing our next big release,” Johnson said.
The new brewery is equipped with a seven-barrel brewhouse, two 14-bbl fermentation tanks, and three 14-bbl brite tanks, which gives it the potential to produce more than 35 unique releases at the nearly 12,000-square-foot site.
A 1,500-square-foot patio is a part of the area which can accommodate 355 consumers.
“We’re looking forward to introducing our beers to more Anaheim residents,” said Karl Strauss president and co-founder Matt Rattner. “This location is the perfect setting for socializing with friends over a freshly brewed, locally made craft beer from an independent brewery.”
The brewpub layout features a tasting room-like bar area with 24 taps. Behind the bar are “beer to go” coolers enabling guests to grab six packs and 22oz bombers.
Next to the brewery is a growler filling station as well.
