How Melvin Looks to be Creative in Charitable Giving

Like many businesses, Melvin Brewing gets a ton of requests for donations, and the supply chain constraints have increased the Wyoming brewery’s cost of goods and such. Marketing Director Travis Cook explained to Brewer that they have to be creative in ways they can give back.

The brewery announced recently it has teamed up with KÜHL Clothing to launch a new Porter, along with having a clothing drive and giveaway.

“Donating beer for charitable events is always good for us, and the opportunity to work with a generous partner like KÜHL was the perfect way for us to make an impactful donation while still keeping the lights on at the Mothership in Alpine,” Cook said.

The companies are giving back to the local communities where Melvin’s beer is sold by giving regional charities one premium quality KÜHL jacket for every 10 cases or two kegs of Scenario Porter sold.

Scenario Porter is available in limited release for three months starting today at select retailers coast-to-coast.

“Rather than give all the donations to one national charity, we wanted to work with our Melvin sales reps to choose local charities in their territories and work with multiple organizations,” Cook said. Melvin sales reps are setting up tap events at bars in their states to raise awareness of the program, and they have chosen charities in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, California, Missouri, and Ohio thus far.

The “Melvin Field Hoperatives” will be hosting tap events throughout the country where they’ll collect gently-used gear and warm clothing in good condition for donation to regional charities. Everyone who shows up at an event with donations will be entered to win a KÜHL jacket of their own.

“People love supporting a good cause, and we wanted to make it easy for them simply by buying a tasty beer from Melvin,” Cook said. “Since our inception, we’ve always looked for ways to raise money and awareness for charities we relate to, and giving back to the communities where we sell beer is one of the things that makes our job rewarding.”

A robust porter made with oats and Midnight Wheat, Scenario Porter (6% ABV/MSRP $9.99/12-ounce six-pack) is a beer fit to warm someone’s insides with the rich, warming flavors of burnt sugar, cocoa, and toast. It’s the first in a series of rotating seasonal releases from Melvin focusing on less-hoppier beer styles.
