The Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas, craft brewer of Shiner Bock, announced contributions totaling $100,000 to several non-profit organizations to support relief efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 hurricane that struck Puerto Rico on September 20 and caused unprecedented devastation, including dozens of fatalities and lingering effects on the power grid, fresh water supplies and communication links, to name but a few. The contributions were made in connection with the local distributor of Shiner Beers in Puerto Rico, V. Suárez & Co., Inc., who helped us select the organizations to receive the contributions: Red de Fundaciones de PR; Puerto Rico Recovery Fund; Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico; Fundación de Puerto Rico; United Way of Puerto Rico; and Unidos por Puerto Rico.
As a family-owned company with deep roots in Puerto Rico and the community, familiar with the local heritage and traditions and with employees spread throughout the island, V. Suarez & Co. was the perfect partner to help Spoetzl Brewery identify the most appropriate recipients for these donations.
Jimmy Mauric, Shiner’s Brewmaster, stated, “Our hearts go out to those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. We are proud of V. Suarez & Co., our local distributor in Puerto Rico, and their efforts to respond to the challenges. We are deeply committed to supporting them and the people of Puerto Rico in their recovery.”
In the wake of natural disasters similar to Hurricane Maria, Shiner Beers and its ownership have donated funds to charitable organizations in the most affected areas. Most recently, Shiner made contributions to support areas affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Hurricane Irma in Florida. Prior to that, Shiner contributed to the relief efforts for the catastrophic flooding in Central Louisiana in 2016, Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Hurricane Ike in 2008, and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
