Oak Road Announces Closure At End of the Year

Oak Road Brewery recently announced that after eight and a half years of serving the Summerville, South Carolina, community it will be closing its doors on December 31.

Founded in 2014, and serving the Summerville community since 2015, Oak Road Brewery’s mission has always been to support the local community by providing more than just craft beer. From creating a space where all are welcome to partnering with more than 30 community organizations, Oak Road Brewery is a staple of the Summerville Community.

According to its announcement on Facebook, the closure is unavoidable for owners Ben Bankey, Brian Cox, and Erin Cox. In the statement, they explain that they are incredibly proud of what they’ve been able to build together as a community.

“We are incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to build together for this community. We know the brewery is more than just a place to drink craft beer,” they wrote. “It’s a place where families and friends gather to listen to live music, enjoy great food, take part in community events, and create memories that last a lifetime. These are just a few reasons why this decision was one that we did not take lightly, and unfortunately, due to multiple reasons, it’s now become unavoidable.”

While this news is somewhat unexpected for locals, Bankey, Cox, and Cox ensured patrons in the announcement that – this isn’t goodbye, and the partners are looking for new ways to continue to serve the community.
