Creating a warm and inviting atmosphere at a brewpub is more than just good hospitality — it’s a crucial component of building a sustainable business.
For Twin Oast Brewing, cultivating an environment that welcomes first-time guests and regulars is a deliberate strategy that blends thoughtful service, community engagement, and intentional design.
“We emphasize greeting every customer, especially first-timers,” said Lilliana Cruz of Twin Oast.
The brewery utilizes an “order-yourself” system with QR codes, allowing guests to enjoy food and drinks at their own pace.
While this model enhances convenience, the Port Clinton, Ohio company recognizes the importance of balancing it with personal service.
“To ensure this experience is smooth, we’ve implemented ‘floor captains’ who assist with any questions or needs,” Cruz told Brewer. “For guests who prefer a more traditional dining experience, our Floor Captains are available to provide personalized service and ensure their needs are met.”
This approach ensures that guests feel both empowered and supported, particularly during peak seasons when many first-time visitors may need extra guidance.
Community involvement is another cornerstone of Twin Oast’s welcoming environment. The brewery’s event programming caters to a wide range of patrons, from families and tourists to hobby groups and local professionals.
“Our spacious property appeals to families and tourists, while our programming and offerings draw in specific interests,” Cruz said.
Events like Crafts with Drafts and large seasonal festivals provide unique opportunities for engagement and bring different community segments together.
Among the most successful events at Twin Oast are its three signature festivals — Apricot Fest, Quinstock, and Oastoberfest.
“Each has its own vibe and unique lineup of vendors and entertainment, making them a standout for the community,” Cruz said.
By celebrating local culture, food, and beer, these festivals attract a diverse audience and create a strong sense of place.
Beyond programming, the design of a brewpub plays a significant role in fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Twin Oast incorporates various features to ensure guests feel comfortable year-round.

“Inside our taproom, we offer cozy seating by the fireplace and TVs for entertainment,” Cruz said. “Our pergola extends this welcoming vibe with lounging chairs, a fireplace, and a TV. In the winter, our patio features wood-burning fire pits for warmth and ambiance, while in the summer, our property transforms into a backyard-style gathering space with open lawns, fire pits, and plenty of lounging areas.”
These intentional design choices create an inviting space where guests want to linger.
Measuring success at Twin Oast goes beyond financial outcomes.
“Success for us goes beyond just numbers,” Cruz emphasized. “We look at turnout and engagement — how many people attended and how much fun they seemed to be having. If an event sparks conversation and people tell us they can’t wait for the next one, that’s a win.”
Social media activity, attendee feedback, and strengthened partnerships also serve as key indicators of a successful event as well.
