Travis Fritts has a central idea about brewing and the Old Nation co-founder says fundamentally, it is a trade. He himself apprenticed under old-guard brewers like Pierre Celis and John-Luc Suys. During our cover story interview a few years ago, he sat down with Jon Sicotte to talk about how the Michigan brewery began with a nod to old-school traditions, morphed into creating more popular styles like NEIPAs and sours and by 2021 he wanted to get back to the basics and add a mainstay lager to the fold. In this archive segment, Fritts shares how he feels about brewing as a trade and how brewing is like music.
