Queue Beer, a craft beer bar in Brooklyn, and Alternate Ending Beer Company of Aberdeen, NJ, are excited to announce their upcoming collaboration beer, “Small Things In Big Countries.” This special release, set to debut on August 9 at both locations, celebrates Indian culture and heritage in anticipation of Indian Independence Day on August 15.
The collaboration beer, a 4.5% ABV Basmati Rice Lager, draws its name from a famous line in the Bollywood film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”: “Small things like this happen in big countries.” Crafted with Czech Republic Saaz Hops and New Zealand Motueka Hops, this crisp and clean lager offers a light, refreshing taste with subtle bitterness, making it an ideal pairing for a variety of Indian cuisine.
Shane Monteiro, Operations Manager at Queue Beer, conceived the idea to highlight and celebrate his Indian heritage. “My family and I are deeply grateful to Scott and the Alternate Ending team for giving us the opportunity to showcase our Indian heritage through craft beer,” said Monteiro. “This platform and the creative freedom to design something unique together mark a significant milestone in our decade-long journey in the craft beer industry.”
The collaboration features label art by renowned Indian artist Chiraag Bhakta, a multidisciplinary creator known for his work in printmaking, collage, photography, and assemblage. Bhakta’s art often explores themes of western imperialism’s impact and the experiences of South Asians in their homelands and diaspora.
Queue Beer, founded by a first-generation family of Indian immigrants, along with its sister location, Carmine Street Beers, stands as the only Indian-owned craft beer-focused venues in New York City. The collaboration with Alternate Ending Beer Company, founded by Scott Novick, brings together two innovative forces in the craft beer scene.
“Small Things In Big Countries” will be available on draft and in 12-ounce cans to-go at Alternate Ending Beer Company, Queue Beer, and Carmine Street Beers while supplies last.
Following the release at Queue Beer and Alternate Ending Beer Co., the second part of the celebration will happen on Indian Independence Day (August 15) and will feature a pizza collaboration between Alternate Ending Beer Co., Talula’s of Asbury Park (who operate the food program at Alternate Ending), and the highly regarded modern Indian restaurant Aarzu of Freehold, NJ. Chef Sharavan Shetty and Archana Sharma worked with Steve and Shanti Mignogna on two Indian-inspired sourdough pizzas, one using Smoked Chicken Tikka with Burrata, Makhani Sauce and the second using Porcini Malai Chicken with Burnt Garlic & Truffle Oil.
