Original 40 Releases Pärte Märzen for Oktoberfest

The Original 40 Brewing Company, voted Best Brewpub 2024 by readers of San Diego Magazine, has released Pärte Märzen in honor of Oktoberfest. The German amber Lager is available on draft and in four packs of 16-oz. cans at the North Park brewery. Head Brewer Steven Terán made the announcement.

The 5.6% ABV beer has a flavor profile of pronounced caramel sweetness and toasted biscuit. Pärte Märzen is malt-forward and balanced by a mild hop bitterness.

“Oktoberfest might be on par with Christmas as the most joyous time of the year,” Terán said. “Pouring our Oktoberfest beer for the first time each year is like unwrapping that first toy from under the Christmas tree. This is always a special time on the beer calendar.”

Original 40 is hosting its Fourth Annual Oktoberfest Games on Saturday, September 28. From 1-5 p.m., four different competitions will be held — Best Lederhosen and Drindl Outfits, Bavarian Pretzel Eating Contest, Stein Holding Competition, and Partner Pretzel Toss. Original 40 gift cards will be awarded to the winners.

“A Märzen is known for its balance, providing a smooth, drinkable quality that makes it perfect for autumn celebrations like Oktoberfest,” said Original 40 Founder Steve Billings. “Steven did a tremendous job. It’s time to party with Pärte Märzen.”

Pärte Märzen is now one of three lagers on the draft menu, joining Baja Soul Mexican Lager (5% ABV) and Chrispy Boi Helles Lager (4.9% ABV). Original 40 won Runner-Up honors for Best Brewery 2024 from San Diego Magazine in addition to the Best Brewpub honor.

Original 40 opens at noon Monday–Friday and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The brewpub, which opened in 2020 and is named after the original 40-acre parcel of land that became modern day North Park, is located at 3117 University Avenue.
