New Cidermaker Smith Joins Sly Clyde

Patrick Smith, a rising star in the Craft Beverage Industry, has joined Sly Clyde Ciderworks as its second Cidermaker. He previously served as brewer at the Mile Wide Beer Company in Louisville, Kentucky and is the former owner of River City Drafthouse in Kentucky.

Smith brings more than six years of experience in fermentation management and craft beverage development to Sly Clyde, Hampton Road’s only cidery. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech, holds a Masters from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is relocating from the Tampa Bay, Florida area to assume this new role.

“We’ve been looking to add to our cidermaker staff since last spring and are excited to have lured Patrick Smith back to Virginia to drive our Mid-Atlantic expansion. His craft-beverage philosophy, and deep passion for flavored ciders, made him stand out from candidates we were evaluating. We couldn’t be more pleased by his creativity and how well he will fit with our easy-going, Coastal Virginia culture,” notes Doug Smith with Sly Clyde.

Patrick Smith and his family moved to Norfolk in November, just blocks from the Bay that inspires Sly Clyde’s logo and branding. He will release his first cider style in late December featuring holiday spices.
