Sly Clyde Launches Lime of the Ancient Mariner

Sly Clyde Ciderworks is launching LIME of the Ancient Mariner, a nice balanced cider with citrusy flavors and tartness. You’ll get the lime flavor on the finish, much like the subtleness of our other award-winning ciders.

Wednesday for Clyde Club members. Thursday for the General Public.

Patrick, our Head Cidermaker, sweetened this newest cider with wild heirloom agave nectar. Crazy, right? This cider is in time for hurricane season. Lime of the Ancient Mariner is light and refreshing, somewhat reminiscent of a margarita.

About the name: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (originally The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere) is the longest poem by English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It is often considered the beginning of British Romantic Literature. You can hear it online.

Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner relates the experiences of a sailor returning from sea, using narrative techniques such as personification and repetition to create a sense of danger, the supernatural, and serenity.

Patrick loves classics like that other classic work by the same name, Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Yes, by Iron Maiden.

If you’ve ever wondered what salubrious tunes might be playing in our Cider House while craftily crushing 100% Virginia apples into the world’s most wonderful ciders be assured there’s lots of classic rock, and maybe an occasional poem.
