This is a part of a continuing series of Q&As with members of the brewing community from across the U.S.
Brewer Magazine will share business and personal insights from Brewmasters, Head Brewers, Brewing Managers, Sales Directors, QCQA Managers and others each weekend to help you get to know each other better in the industry and learn more to better develop your own brand.

Cari Caramonta, co-founder/vice president, Gnarly Barley Brewing — Hammond, Louisiana

BREWER: How do you feel your job has had to adapt in the beer market compared to a few years ago?
CARAMONTA: Social media is everything now, so learning how to stay on top of it daily without it eating up all of your time has been something I’ve had to adapt to.

BREWER: Who is your mentor in the industry and why? What have you learned from them?
CARAMONTA: My husband, Zac Caramonta is co-founder/president and we really lean on each other. He mentors me in brewing, engineering, etc., and I mentor him on social media, marketing etc. We’ve learned so much from each other and we continue to.

BREWER: Can you share a success story that you are proud of in your job or maybe a story of how you learned from a situation that has altered your thoughts on how you do your job now?
CARAMONTA: We were extremely humbled and proud to be named Top 50 fastest growing breweries in the US by the Brewer’s Association in 2017 and 2018.

BREWER: Can you touch on something your brewery has added lately that’s unique or making your business more successful (it could be equipment, technology or people)?
CARAMONTA: Cryo hops is something we began using a year or so ago and it’s really elevated our IPAs.

BREWER: If you had one business strategy that you could implement to better the brewing industry, what would it be?
CARAMONTA: Invest in your employees. That ensures better quality products because happy people that believe in your company care about the product they produce.
