Finding Ways Craft Beer Can Impact A Community

Finding ways to connect with the local community is a lifeblood of many, if not most, craft breweries.

For the celebration of Redlands, California’s 125th Anniversary in 2013, Hangar 24 Brewery developed a Red Ale on draft to commemorate the occasion. The beer is making an impact again in 2017, this time as the brewery has teamed with Feeding America to donate a portion of sales of the beer to help the local community in fighting hunger.

Each six pack and bomber sale and for every two pints sold will equal another meal for a local family through Feeding America’ Riverside | San Bernardino chapter. It’s one of 200 member food banks of the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organizations.

“We just completed our first full-blown collaboration with a charity partner with our winter seasonal, Chocolate Bomber, and the response was amazing,” said the brewery’s founder and brewer Ben Cook said. “When you take the time to learn about the work that Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino does and the fact that they help provide meals to 425,000 men, women, children, seniors, and veterans each month, you can’t help but want to be a part something so meaningful.”

Feeding America Riverside |San Bernardino CEO Stephanie Otero said the organization couldn’t be more pleased to be a part of the collaboration with Hangar 24.

RedlandsFeed 800x300“They have proven to be a strong community partner within our region and we viewed the opportunity as one that made perfect sense,” Otero said. “Together, our organizations share the common value of helping others and felt it could be a purposeful long-term effort to bring much needed food to those in need within our community.”

Hangar 24, which is nearing a decade of business, has opened a second taproom 230 miles east of its home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. But Redlands Red Ale is a tribute to where the brewery started.

“It was time,” Cook said. “We have been so fortunate from day one to have such great support from the local community, we wanted to give everyone here a beer that shows how proud we are to be from here and what a great place Redlands is.”

Redlands Red Ale is a red/copper colored Irish Red Style Ale that offers a unique bitterness balanced by notes of toffee and caramel and complemented by a bright, fruity aroma-showcasing the region’s local citrus heritage.  Redlands Red is available on draught, six-pack 12 oz. bottles and 22 oz. bombers throughout California, Arizona and Nevada.
