San Diego Brewers Guild and Brewery Members Release 2021 Capital of Craft IPA

Back just in time for San Diego Beer Week, 2021 Capital of Craft IPA is a collaboration beer brewed by eight brewery members and in support of the San Diego Brewers Guild (SDBG). Starting Friday, November 5, the special IPA will be available on tap and in 16-ounce four-packs throughout San Diego County for a limited time.

“Our board of directors and community supporters love seeing SDBG members join forces annually to create a beer that lives up to our region’s title as the ‘Capital of Craft’ and celebrates the start of San Diego Beer Week in November,” explains Paige McWey Acers, Executive Director at SDBG. “For the 2021 iteration, we are unveiling new can art that was creatively designed by Mother Sponge as well as utilizing more resources from our sponsors to make this special beer available to craft beer enthusiasts.”

Capital of Craft IPA debuted in 2017 by eight inaugural members of the SDBG. As the collaborative tradition continues, the previous year’s participants select new brewery members to lead the recipe development, ingredient selection, and brew day for the upcoming year.

2021 Capital of Craft IPA Collaborators:

  • Ballast Point Brewing Company
  • Booze Bros. Brewing Co.
  • Craft Coast
  • Eppig Brewing Co.
  • Latchkey Brewing Company
  • Puesto Cervecería
  • Rouleur Brewing Co.
  • Societe Brewing Company (host brewery)

Sponsors:

  • Country Malt Group (malted barley)
  • Mobile West Canning Group (canning process)
  • Mother Sponge (2021 art design)
  • White Labs Inc. (yeast)
  • Yakima Chief Hops (hops)

Thoughtfully curated by the 2021 team of collaborators, Azacca, Centennial, Chinook Cryo, Idaho 7, and Simcoe Hops help create a bright, crisp IPA with notes of lemon, peach and juicy tropical fruit characters. The addition of a California-grown barley lends to a cracker-like backbone that imparts the aggressive bitterness, allowing for bright fruit flavors and aromatics to shine through.

“Our team was honored to have been selected as the 2021 host brewery,” said Doug Constantiner, CEO & Co-founder at Societe Brewing. “More importantly, we had a great time going through the process of brainstorming a recipe and selecting ingredients that would give us an IPA that rightfully represents our award-winning local brewing community.”

San Diego Beer Week festivities begin with the Annual Virtual Kick-Off Toast on Friday, November 5 at 7 p.m. PT.  Fans are invited to join the digital bash from their neighborhood brewery, craft beer bar or tasting room, and share content on social media using #SDBEER and #SDBW21.
