Karl Strauss Brewing Company has announced that the company’s first fully outdoor taproom test concept, The Outpost at San Marcos, will close at the end of operations on Sunday, August 11.
Originally envisioned as a much larger-scale concept, The Outpost was adapted into a smaller, simpler outdoor taproom experience in response to the challenges faced by the craft brewing and restaurant industries during the pandemic. Opened in November 2023, it served as a test concept for the company.
“Since 1989 when Karl Strauss Brewing Company opened San Diego’s first new brewery in more than 50 years and started the local craft brewing industry, we have been continuously pioneering and experimenting.” said Fred Glick, Vice President of Brewpubs for Karl Strauss. “We had hoped to evolve this concept, but the challenges of operating a fully outdoor space, coupled with the hurdles that needed to be overcome for further development, led us to the difficult decision to end this experiment. While we loved sharing our beer in an outdoor tasting room environment, the reality is that our full-service brewpubs really allow us to better connect with our guests through our award-winning beers and outstanding service.”
To celebrate the final day of this experiment, The Outpost will feature $5.00 16-oz. Karl Strauss beers on Sunday, August 11 available from 1-8 p.m. or until the beer is gone. Come and celebrate with us!
“We sincerely appreciate the support of the San Marcos community during our time at The Outpost,” said Jennifer Briggs, acting Chief Experience Officer. “While The Outpost experiment is ending, Karl Strauss beer is available at our full-service brewpub locations, retailers, and other local establishments.”
The Outpost employs fewer than eleven team members, all of whom are eligible for open positions at other Karl Strauss locations.
Karl Strauss Brewing distributes beer throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona and operates eight full-service brewpubs in the Southern California region with rotating selections of freshly brewed beers, including locations in Downtown San Diego, Sorrento Mesa, 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, Temecula, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, and Los Angeles.
