Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales will be hosting their third annual Zwanze Day on Saturday September 29th at their brewery in Dexter.
Zwanze Day is an annual event put on by Brasserie-Brouwerij Cantillon, a world-renown Belgian brewery famous for its traditional Lambic beers. In 2008 Cantillon created Zwanze Day, a celebration in which they brew a very limited batch of an experimental beer and offer it for sale in a select group of pubs and breweries around the world. The beer is typically a different style each year and is something other than a traditional Cantillon Lambic. “This year’s Zwanze is a Lambic that was blended from three different types of barrels. “The Zwanze 2018 is a fruity beer with notes of mango and citrus and a fine lingering mouthfeel.” Cantillon Brewer/Owner Jean Van Roy explained on Facebook.
“We have the unique privilege of being the only place in Michigan that will be pouring Cantillon’s Zwanze beer.” Jolly Pumpkin Event Director, Keifer Fillinger explained. 20 countries and 28 US locations were chosen to host Zwanze events this year. “At Jolly Pumpkin we celebrate the style of spontaneous brewing as well as delicious Belgian style beers, so along with Zwanze we have curated a star-studded list of some of the best breweries around the world for our event. If you’re looking to try beers that never make their way to the great mitten state, then this festival you won’t want to miss.”
Tickets are $100 and include a commemorative sampling glass and 20 drink tokens to sample beers from the nearly 50 breweries that will be present. Cantillon Zwanze will begin pouring at 2:45 pm and will be first come first serve for the Zwanze toast at 3 PM. All profits from Zwanze Day ticket sales will go directly to the Peace Neighborhood Center.
The Peace Neighborhood Center is a nonprofit organization in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which provides programs for children, families, and individuals who are affected by social and economic problems.
