Jolly Pumpkin Bière de Mars is Back

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is releasing their acclaimed Bière de Mars in cans for the first time. With a perfect style rating and 98 overall rating on RateBeer, the Flanders Style Sour is hitting the market for a very limited release this March.

This beer, once considered a ‘mistake’, has become a highly sought after limited release for Jolly Pumpkin. Bière de Mars was originally brewed in 2011 by brewmaster, Ron Jeffries as an experiment to see how two different yeast strains would react in an otherwise exact same beer recipe. After fermentation of the two test batches, both were so pleasing to the palate that they were combined to create Bière de Mars.

Fermented using both ale and lager yeast, mellowed in an oak foeder and fermented in the can. After a short foeder rest, Bière de Mars is then transferred to used bourbon barrels, developing rich notes of caramel, leather, bourbon, and tart oak.

Due to the complex aging process, only a small yield of this beer comes from each batch. Jolly Pumpkin is releasing 16 ounce 4-pack cans to a limited distribution throughout Michigan. Bière de Mars will also be available at all Jolly Pumpkin brewpub locations.
