Independence Brings Back “Oklahoma Suks” for Football Season

Independence Brewing Co. is thrilled to announce the return of its fermented homage to UT football cleverly dubbed “Oklahoma Suks.” The spirited brew is available now through November 1 at the Independence taproom and in select stores across Austin, Texas, just in time for the start of college football season.

The idea for Oklahoma Suks was originally conceived by UT-Austin alumnus and Independence Brewing’s co-founder, Amy Cartright, as a way to show the brewery’s “appreciation” to UT’s rivals up north during football season. To make the beer perfect for UT football games, Independence Brewing redesigned the cans of their year-round ale, Austin Amber, which is a natural fit for football season as the weather begins to cool.

The can’s old-school design features specific call-outs that OU football fans are sure to notice, including an upside-down image of Oklahoma’s silhouette and the can’s burnt-orange coloring.

Weighing in at a session-able 4.9% ABV, the Oklahoma Suks/Austin Amber ale is brewed using caramel blend and pale chocolate malts along with Nugget and Cascade hops and yeasted with American Ale (Chico). The beer also pairs nicely with tailgate and football stadium concessions like BBQ, mac & cheese, pizza and buffalo wings.
