This past weekend transported myself, and five others to Asheville, N.C. on a craft beer expedition/my own bachelor party. We hit up a few of the Asheville hot spots, which I’ll discuss over the next couple of articles.
First on my list from the weekend was Wicked Weed Brewing. We attempted to get in the first night, but the wait was just too long for our hunger. So we vowed to return the next night when we were in better spirits — probably the best idea by far.
Wicked Weed does not disappoint. We passed around a multitude of beers including the Utterly Milk Stout, which is currently brewing. To be slightly honest, we were there for a while and passed around a multitude of beers and unfortunate tequila shots.
Located on Biltmore Ave. Wicked Weed is a must see. The outside is beautiful, but it’s located in an old-style building with exposed brick. The dining room is very eventful and the staff does a great job.
What you must see is the taproom and brewery downstairs. The stairs are at the far left end of the dining room, which you might miss if you’re not looking. Going down the stairs you walk immediately into the taproom with a vibrant environment. The service is extremely quick and the mixture of outside and inside space is extremely relaxing.
We spent a lot of time in the taproom tasting every beer we could get our hands on. Additionally, you can take a look into the brewing house and see where the magic happens, then immediately be transported with a simple turn into a courtyard full of seating, open space and corn hole.
This was technically the second stop for The Brewer Magazine Asheville tour, but it was the first actual brewery. Regardless, it made the first article because it was by far one of the greatest breweries we experienced on the trip.
