The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and the beer is flowing for the summer season and for the 2nd Annual Lexington Craft Beer Week this week. Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. will have three new brews available for the special week– including collaboration brews with Blue Stallion Brewing Co. and Country Boy Brewing – as well as a new seasonal brew for summer. The new brews include:

Kentucky Peach Barrel Wheat – The brewery’s Kentucky Peach Barrel Wheat will soon hit shelves across Kentucky and will also be featured at several events during the popular local beer week, including the Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fest on Saturday, May 17. The peach brew, the third in the brewery’s barrel-aged seasonal series, will be available on tap and in four-packs while supplies last through the summer.

The brew is a light, crisp ale perfect for lazy summer days. The barrel-aging process balances hints of caramel and vanilla and subtle cereal notes with the juiciness of a fresh ripe peach. At 8 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), the limited seasonal release is a refreshingly unique sipping beer. The beer will be available in limited quantities in the 20 existing domestic territories where the company’s beer is distributed, with a suggested retail price of $14.99.

Kentucky Stallion Bourbon Barrel Maibock – Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. is also teaming up with Lexington’s newest craft brewery, Blue Stallion Brewing Co., to serve up a beer that brings together the two breweries’ strengths – Alltech’s barrel-aging specialty and Blue Stallion’s traditional European brews expertise. The collaboration brew will be served on tap only both at the Blue Stallion tap room on West Third Street during Lexington Craft Beer Week May 10-18, as well as across Lexington bars and restaurants while supplies last.

“The time is right within the Lexington beer community that the local breweries are all helping each other achieve success, which makes brewing even more fun,” said Ken Lee, master brewer for Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. “When we put our heads together, we can all help build Lexington to one day be a craft beer destination among the likes of Denver and Asheville.”

Kentucky Stallion Bourbon Barrel Maibock boasts caramel and fruit notes, as well as oak and vanilla flavors picked up from bourbon barrel aging. The sweeter flavors are balanced by a subtle hoppy bitterness and light carbonation. A maibock – or “bock beer of May” in German – is an early springtime version of a German bock beer.

Kentucky Boy – Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. also teamed with its brewing neighbor less than a mile away, Country Boy Brewing, to create Kentucky Boy, a unique brew that blends a two-year-aged special Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout™ and Country Boy’s Black Gold Porter and barrel ages every drop of the blend. The two breweries were chosen from hundreds of craft breweries nationwide to debut the specialty beer at an exclusive collaboration salon at SAVOR Craft Beer over the weekend in Washington, D.C., an annual event that showcases the best of the best breweries. The collaboration brew will be featured at the Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fest on May 17, as well as in very limited quantities at Country Boy’s tap room on Chair Ave. while supplies last.

At SAVOR, master brewers from Country Boy and Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co.  discussed the growth of craft beer in Lexington, how one of Country Boy’s co-founders winning the Kentucky Ale Pro-Am Brew-Off helped them on their path, and why Kentucky is the perfect location for producing barrel-aged beers.
