5 Generations Bakers, producer of the well-known Jenny Lee Swirl Breads, has joined with two other local companies to introduce a new Jenny Lee Swirl Brew.
Abjuration Brewing Company and Allegheny Mountain Malt provided ingredients, equipment and expertise to incorporate Jenny Lee’s Apple Swirl Bread into a cinnamon-spiced sour apple ale.
Christened “Spiced Apple Swirl,” the fruited sour will be debuted at an outdoor Oktoberfest event at Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook, 1014 Broadhead Road Coraopolis, on Saturday, September 26 from 2-6 p.m.
“Beer is technically ‘liquid bread,’ and we’ve been wanting to try another brewing partnership for a long time,” said Scott Baker, President and CEO at 5 Generations Bakers, whose previous collaboration was with 412 Brewery. “That’s why it was so exciting to be on hand at Abjuration and personally add loaves of our Jenny Lee Apple Swirl bread to the initial mash. It’s doubly sweet that Abjuration has such a strong presence in McKee’s Rocks. Though we sell nationally, we are a hometown company by choice.”
“We were very excited to try the Swirl Brew idea,” said Dave Hallam, an owner/operator at Abjuration Brewing. “We are always releasing something new and unique, and we source our ingredients for quality and a specific taste. The freshest ingredients come from your own backyard, after all, so our neighbors at 5 Generations were a perfect fit for our process.”
“We have found collaborating with local brewers and other partners to be a great way to keep our product top-of-mind as a go-to ingredient for producing a truly local beer,” said Vince Mangini, Food21 Value Center Manager and Allegheny Mountain Malt project coordinator. “It doesn’t get much more local that this one.”
The September 26 event will feature Spiced Apple Swirl and other Abjuration brews, along with German-themed food by Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook, soft drinks, and live music from Accordions Likely and The Button Band. All ages are welcome; a $10 admission includes your first beer, or a $5 ticket entitles you to a soft drink and all the fun.
