Independence Brewing Co. has brought back its seasonal “Oklahoma Suks” beer ahead of the annual University of Texas-Oklahoma football rivalry game.
The limited-release beer is available at H-E-B stores and repackages Independence Brewing’s year-round Austin Amber ale in football-themed cans for the fall season.
The beer was created by Amy Cartwright, a University of Texas-Austin alumna and co-founder of Independence Brewing, as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Longhorns’ longtime rival, the University of Oklahoma.
The retro-style packaging features a burnt-orange color scheme and an upside-down silhouette of Oklahoma. The beer itself is unchanged from Austin Amber, with a 4.9% alcohol by volume and a malt bill featuring caramel-blend and pale-chocolate malts. Nugget and Cascade hops and American Ale, or Chico, yeast round out the recipe.
Independence Brewing positions the beer as a game-day option that pairs with foods including barbecue, macaroni and cheese, pizza and wings.
The Longhorns are scheduled to face Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 10.
