Creating an inviting, flexible, and experience-driven taproom has become a strategic advantage for brewpubs, and Twin Oast Brewing in Ohio has approached this intentionally from the ground up. According to marketing manager Lilliana Cruz, the vision behind Twin Oast’s aesthetic was shaped by a desire to celebrate the surrounding natural beauty while embracing the functionality of a working brewery.
Twin Oast’s approach to aesthetics and layout demonstrates how thoughtful design can support the business’s goals, enhance customer experiences, and create a sense of place that resonates year-round.
“From the start, the goal was to create a space that felt rooted in the natural beauty of Catawba Island,” Cruz said. “We wanted the aesthetic to celebrate both the land and the brewing process—rustic and welcoming, with modern touches.”
Twin Oast integrates materials like wood and stone to create a grounded feel, while expansive windows bring in natural light and provide views of the property’s landscape. The space aims to strike a balance between comfort and visual appeal, functioning as both a destination spot for beer drinkers along with being a working taproom for area regulars.
Designing with flexibility in mind allows Twin Oast to accommodate everything from intimate visits to large gatherings. All of this foresight gives the brewery multiple ways to entertain guests.
“Our seating layout is designed to be both communal and adaptable. Long tables for groups, smaller setups for couples, and plenty of outdoor options that shift with the day’s needs,” Cruz said.
The brewery is located on an orchard, so a family-friendly lawn features picnic tables and open space that can encourage relaxation, especially during the busy summer season for activities like Cedar Point in nearby Sandusky.
Bar service plays a central role in the guest experience, and Cruz emphasized that efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of interaction.
“Our main bar was designed to be both efficient and engaging — a place where guests can connect with our team, ask about what’s on tap, or get pairing tips,” she said.
To handle seasonal surges, Twin Oast expands its service areas with additional bars spread throughout the property, including a self-pour option with a trailer attached to its pergola. This, Cruz said, keeps lines manageable while maintaining a personalized touch.

Events are a core part of the brewery’s identity as well.
The property supports a wide range of gatherings, from live music and festivals to private parties and seasonal celebrations.
“Summer is when we really come alive. Our lawn, pergola, and Oast House are all great spots for live music, festivals, and outdoor gatherings,” Cruz said.
Even during the quieter winter months, Twin Oast continues to host community events and adapts its spaces for warmth and comfort, including firepits, igloos, and indoor activities that make use of the taproom’s cozy ambiance.
