Schlafly Beer To Celebrate 20th Annual Stout & Oyster Fest

Schlafly Beer will host the 20th annual Stout & Oyster Festival on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at the historic Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust). Recently named one of CraftBeer.com’s Great Beer and Food Festivals of 2019, the not-to-miss event is the largest festival of its kind in the Midwest. Schlafly’s Stout & Oyster Festival has also been named as one of Food Republic’s 12 Ridiculously Cool Food And Drink Fests Around The World and one of Departures magazine’s top March events. Schlafly flies in almost 80,000 oysters (overnight, to be the freshest possible) from both coasts; hosts 25 seasoned oyster shuckers to shuck oysters live all weekend long; and brews 10 stouts exclusively for the festival.

This milestone year brings new stouts, stories from the star shuckers, live music, and more. See here for a short video to get a taste of the festival fun. The talented Schlafly brewing team will offer ten new stouts, available in the now signature Stout Sampler (see below), with flavors from barrel-aged stouts like a Cherry Barrel Aged Stout to the sweets-inspired S’more Stout and Peanut Butter & Jelly Stout. Things even get a little spicy with a Tabasco Stout.

There will be three East Coast and three West Coast varieties of raw oysters available both inside and outside the Schlafly Tap Room with raw bars upstairs in the Club Room as well as outside in the “Shuckerdome.” Fried Oysters, Oysters Rockefeller, Roasted Oysters and Oyster Chowder will also be available as well as several bars with additional Schlafly Beer styles.

After 20 years of celebrations, the relationships between the star shuckers and the Schlafly team extend far beyond the festival grounds. Founding Brewer Stephen Hale hosts all the shuckers in his home before the festival for a lobster feast, known as Seafest. The Schlafly team even visited some of the shuckers’ farms on the East and West coasts for “shucker trips” this winter. You can take a look here to see snapshots of their trip. From bringing shuckers from across the country together for one weekend in St. Louis, to Schlafly’s continuous education through the shucker trips, the Stout & Oyster family is the foundation of the festival and is the spirit felt throughout the weekend.

Live music and the grand finale of the Stout & Oyster Shuck Off provides entertainment for attendees. The Shuck Off features three shuckers from all three teams (East Coast, West Coast and No Coast) going head-to-head in a relay-style race to shuck, slurp and then chug a stout. The fastest time crowns the winner.
