Meanwhile Brewing Co. and Matt’s El Rancho announce the release of 1952, a limited-edition Tex-Mex Lager brewed in celebration of the 73rd anniversary of Matt’s El Rancho, the iconic family-owned South Austin restaurant. Together, they have crafted a beer that captures the flavor of tradition, the spirit of collaboration and a deep love for the city they both call home.

Since 1952, Matt’s El Rancho has been a go-to Tex-Mex destination for generations of Austinites, celebrated for its legendary Bob Armstrong Dip, knockout Mexican martinis, and family-style hospitality. After more than seven decades it remains a cornerstone of the Austin community, and with the expertise of Meanwhile Brewing Co. the restaurant is now extending that legacy into the world of craft beer for the first time.

“We’ve always respected the way Meanwhile has created a space that feels like home for so many,” said Paul Counter, general manager of Matt’s El Rancho. “They really make a point to foster neighborhood connection and community togetherness, something that continues to define Austin even as the city grows.”

Brewed by Meanwhile Brewing Co. with maize, honey and a hint of lime, 1952 is a crisp, easy-drinking Tex-Mex lager designed to complement bold, flavorful dishes and warm Austin afternoons. The can features artwork inspired by Matt’s classic branding, creating a visual connection to the restaurant’s long-standing heritage.

“Good beer and good food have always been at the heart of Austin and at the heart of what we do here at Meanwhile,” says Will Jaquiss, Founder and Brewmaster at Meanwhile. “Building relationships in the Austin food scene is incredibly important to us and working on something to celebrate Matt’s legacy was a real honor.”

1952 will be available in cans and on draft at Matt’s El Rancho and in the Meanwhile taproom while supplies last.
