Be it board or card games, activities like darts, Jenga, shuffle puck, or even having pinball or arcade machines, cideries across the nation are finding entertainment options are more than just fun add-ons — they’re business strategies.

By offering things that encourage customers to linger, many see additional sales while creating a loyal and diverse customer base.

At the heart of the strategy is the idea of crafting an experience beyond just cider. Many are embracing these as a way to create a welcoming and interactive environment. Patrons are more likely to order another drink when they are engrossed in a game or participating in an event with friends.

“We love games and we have brought in our favorites to share, hoping folk stay a little longer to play,” said Maggie Przybylski of 2 Broads Cider.

The cidery even created a list on its website of available card and board games to let consumers know that they understand the need to have such extra entertainment options on hand.

But it’s not just about keeping customers at their tasting room. Offering entertainment options that cater to a wide audience is essential for broadening a cidery’s appeal. Simple, accessible games like Uno for instance, can work well for casual groups, while adding things like trivia nights and larger events like bingo can draw in competitive crowds on a weekly basis. Family-friendly options can also ensure that cideries are seen as inclusive spaces where parents and kids alike feel comfortable.

By diversifying entertainment offerings, cideries are positioning themselves as community hubs, not just places to grab a drink. It’s a move that can foster deeper connections with patrons.

Lilliana Cruz, the Marketing Manager for Twin Oast said they strive to create a unique experience that everyone can enjoy; including the “half-pints.”

“Although I understand why some businesses may need to implement children-related policies, we don’t find that necessary in our case,” she said. “In fact, I believe that appealing to children/families has a positive impact on our brand which is why we take kids into consideration when planning events.”

Katie Renish, the Taproom and Retail Manager for Lawson’s Finest Liquids’ recently explained that having additional entertainment is very helpful in attracting consumers.

“It helps our space appeal to families who are looking for somewhere to have a “night out” with their kids in tow, as well as first dates or outings where people are more comfortable being somewhat occupied during their visit,” she said.
