Catawba Island Unveils New Chapter with Complete Rebrand

Catawba Island Brewing Co., a brewery brand based in Port Clinton, Ohio, is announcing a transformative change following its acquisition by Twin Oast Brewing in June 2023. While the brewery’s name remains unchanged, Catawba Island Brewing is eager to unveil a rebrand that showcases a new theme capturing the spirit of adventure and reflects the lure of Lake Erie’s open waters. The updated brand identity, along with updated social media platforms, have taken immediate effect.

The brewery plans on creating a new beer lineup along with the brand refresh, but is going to keep the flagship beer, Hot Blonde, a mango and habanero Blonde Ale.

“It’s been something I’ve been excited about since the acquisition” says Cory Smith, Co-Owner of CIBC. “Hot Blonde has been a CIBC flagship for years, and I think part if its draw is that it takes a little risk with the heat, but the balanced sweetness feels both exciting and familiar. The new beers that we’re going to brew take that as a cue, they are big on bold flavor combinations, while allowing us to experiment in the brewhouse in ways we never have before.”

The rebrand is kicked off with the release of Island Joy, a new beer which they dub a Candy Bar Stout.

Smith says of this beer, “It’s a call back to my homebrewing days when I’d make a coconut porter that everyone loved. We took that concept and amped it up in an aim to create a liquid candy bar complete with toasted coconut, vanilla beans, and dark chocolate.”

While Hot Blonde will maintain a year-round presence, the brewery also plans to release the following as seasonal beers in 2024.

  • Island Joy – Candy Bar Stout (Winter)
  • Sneaky Sinker – Double Dry Hop West Coast IPA (Spring)
  • Pineapple Mind Fractal – Pineapple Upside-Down Sour (Summer)
  • Roast the Mallow – Imperial Smore’s Porter (Fall)

There are no current plans for a Catawba Island Brewing taproom, however, fans of the brewery can get a sneak peek of Island Joy, as well as revisit the brewery’s Seiche Scottish Ale and Hot Blonde at a “CIBC Tap Takeover” in the Twin Oast Pergola on Friday, February 23 from 4-10 p.m.
