Rob Tod, founder of Allagash Brewing in Portland, Maine, leased 4,000 sq ft of a 10,000 sq ft building in 1994 and started brewing alone, selling the first batch of Allagash White in 1995. Initially, he faced challenges due to the economic downturn in the mid-90s and the unique nature of his beer, which took more than 10 years to gain traction. Allagash grew slowly and Rob shared with Brewer Mag’s Jon Sicotte in an archive interview from 2019 about how the brewery was just starting to expand more into canning along with other insights to Tod’s almost now 30-year-old company. This is the interview Brewer did for the cover story interview, “Innovating to Continue Growth at Allagash.”
