Blue Bee Cider Announces RVA Harvest Party & Community Apple Press

To celebrate three years in Scott’s Addition, Blue Bee Cider will host an RVA Harvest Party on Saturday, October 5, from noon to 9 p.m. This event will feature a community apple pressing, allowing members of the general public to help make a cider.

Blue Bee Cider was originally established in Richmond’s Manchester neighborhood in 2012. In commemoration of eight harvest years, the cidery is currently collecting apples of all kinds from members of the RVA community through October 4. (These urban farmers will be compensated in cidery store credit.)

Starting at noon on October 5, Team Blue Bee Cider will roll out the apple grinder and presses. All are welcome to help press the apples into juice that will be fermented into a Richmond community cider for release in 2020. Truckle Cheesemongers will provide a sneak peek at their new brick-and-mortar location with an array of Virginia cheeses, and Perch RVA will serve up Filipino Pork BBQ skewers and vegan crab cakes.

A “New Arrivals” station will feature multiple unreleased products, including the cidery’s first mead (honey wine), a rare Spitzenburg apple single-varietal, and Hewe’s Crab Apple aged in a Catoctin Creek Distilling Company gin barrel. The event is pet- and family-friendly, with pumpkin decorating and activities for kids. Additional details to be announced.

RVA Harvest Party is “pay-as-you-go” with no fee for entry. For more information, call (804) 231-0280 or click here.
