With city approval for a new development agreement, SingleSpeed Brewing Co. announced that Backpocket Brewing and Peace Tree Brewing will relocate their production to SingleSpeed’s Waterloo, Iowa facility beginning in early 2026 — a move that will make the site one of Iowa’s largest and most decorated craft brewing hubs.
The expanded facility at 325 Commercial Street, housed in the historic WonderBread building, will bring three of the state’s most respected breweries under one roof. The combined operation will be branded as The Brewery @ WonderBread, featuring large-scale production, collaborative projects, and an expanded taproom experience designed to attract both locals and tourists.
“This is a win for Waterloo, for Iowa craft beer, and for every fan who has supported our breweries along the way,” said SingleSpeed Founder Dave Morgan. “By bringing these teams together at our WonderBread facility, we’re building a destination that showcases the best of Iowa beer and sets the stage for future innovation.”
As part of the agreement, SingleSpeed will acquire Backpocket Brewing’s intellectual property and integrate its team into the larger operation, ensuring the continued growth and distribution of the Backpocket brand. Backpocket acquired the Peace Tree brand in November of 2024 following Peace Tree’s decision to cease brewing operations.
“This collaboration ensures our brands and Iowa’s craft beer tradition will not only endure, but thrive,” said Aaron Vargas, owner of Backpocket and Peace Tree.
According to data provided by the Brewers Association, SingleSpeed produced 4,571 barrels of product in 2024 while Backpocket made 4,840. Peace Tree was noted to have 1,491 barrels made. The three brands combined produced more than 10,000 barrels together, which would be inside the Top 200 largest breweries in the country.
The Brewery @ WonderBread is expected to begin production operations in early 2026.
