For brewers aiming for something a little lighter, check out Root Shoot Malting’s new Malted Corn.
Sown, grown, and malted in Loveland, Colorado, these distinctive malts will instantly elevate the quality of your beer, no matter if you’re brewing a black lager, stout, cream ale or Mexican lager.
Buck “Naked” Chocolate Malt: Root Shoot Malting and Troubadour Maltings are going au natural with Buck “Naked” Chocolate Malt. The hull naturally separates at harvest, resulting in a smooth, tannin-free character without the astringency. Expect rich notes of chocolate, coffee and toasted bread, with hints of light caramel, earth and roasty strawberry. This roasted malt is suitable for dark styles like Black Lagers, Black IPAs, Stouts and Porters, and in low ratios, for adding color to lighter styles. Malted from Buck variety 6-row winter barley.
“Buck ‘Naked’ Chocolate Malt is the result of two Colorado maltsters coming together with a shared passion for craft. Root Shoot grew and malted the barley, then passed it to Troubadour who brought their roasting expertise to the table,” says Root Shoot Farmer and Founder Todd Olander. “The result is a husk-free chocolate malt that’s smooth, rich, and full of flavor, perfect for brewers who want depth without bitterness. This is Colorado craft at its core.”
Non-GMO Malted Corn: For a lighter, classic touch, Root Shoot Malting’s Malted Corn has a classic sweetness, clean fermentability, and full traceability from seed to sip. Crafted from carefully selected non-GMO yellow dent corn grown on the Root Shoot farm, this malt adds subtle earthy sweet corn flavor and fermentable sugar. For American lagers, cream ales or adjunct stouts, this malt is an excellent 1:1 substitute for flaked or raw corn, with better handling and enzymatic activity.
Root Shoot Malting’s raw materials are the foundation for world-renowned beverages, including their own Root Shoot Whiskey, which was recently named American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year at London Spirits International Competition.
Award-winning Root Shoot Malt is handcrafted on Olander Farms in Loveland, Colo., as part of a fifth generation family farming legacy that prioritizes sustainable agriculture. Get in touch with Root Shoot Malting by visiting rootshootmalting.com.
