The Ohio Craft Brewers Association’s mobile brewery finder and passport app – Ohio On Tap – earned an Ohio Travel Association RUBY Award for best mobile app of 2017. The RUBY Awards, sponsored by Ohio Magazine, recognize outstanding achievements in marketing, advertising and public relations from Ohio’s travel industry each year. RUBY and Citation of Excellence Awards are presented to travel industry members during the annual Ohio Conference on Travel. Awards are presented for excellence in more than a dozen different categories, reflecting the creativity involved with creating new communications strategies using various media.
Over 9,500 craft beer lovers have downloaded the Ohio On Tap app to date. Users earn points by visiting participating Ohio craft breweries and can redeem those points for prizes provided by the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. Since Ohio On Tap was launched in May, four users have completed the passport, earning the grand prize by visiting over 150 breweries.
In addition to the passport, the Ohio On Tap app also offers Ohio craft beer fans comprehensive brewery info including beers on tap, location and hours, a location-based tool to identify nearby breweries and beer suggestions based on previous check-in activity.
“There’s really great beer being made all over the state,” said Mary MacDonald, executive director of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. “We’re very proud that we can offer such a fun way for people to go out and explore Ohio’s craft breweries.”
