Continuing its mission of creating community through beer, award-winning Allagash Brewing Company today announced their new space, Allagash Scarborough, is on track to open at 10 Market Street at The Downs in July 2025.

This second location will be a reimagined hospitality concept from the Allagash team. The space will have its own distinct feel, unique programming, and different choices for drinks including house-made wine and cocktails, as well as the award-winning beers Allagash is known for. In addition, guests can expect a new menu from the celebrated team at Bite Into Maine.

Allagash will continue all of its existing operations at its headquarters in Portland. The original tasting room area, including brewery tours and tasting experiences, will remain open at the flagship Portland location, which has been ranked by Tripadvisor as the #1 thing to do in Portland, Maine.

“For 30 years, Portland has been and will always be our home, but we’re excited to reach even more of the Maine community in this new space, as well as folks visiting Maine, by bringing the Allagash experience to Scarborough,” said Rob Tod, Founder, Allagash Brewing Company.

The concept, interior, and exterior design are being created by Mey & Co, whose team has worked on well-known Portland restaurants like Bar Futo, Mr. Tuna, Bread + Friends, Ramona’s, and more.

“Scarborough residents have expressed how thrilled they are to welcome Allagash to The Downs,” said Jacob Michaud, Development Officer, M&R Development. “Given the anticipation, we worked closely with Allagash and the town of Scarborough to find space within the new Market Street building, which will enable them to open their doors much more quickly than previously anticipated,” said Michaud.

The Downs is Maine’s largest mixed-use development project located in the heart of Scarborough. The project first broke ground in 2018, and is now home to 50+ businesses, including IDEXX, InterMed and Costco; a mixed-use housing development, and Maine’s first new-build Town Center. Throughout the property, there will be 10+ miles of walking and biking trails, public trail heads with access to Scarborough Land Trust parks, and a central greenspace in the future Town Center.

“We’re creating a space that can be a community hub for families, our friends in The Downs, and Scarborough as a whole,” said Emily Wallace, Director of Hospitality at Allagash. “Much of our staff lives in Scarborough or spends time there with the abundance of beautiful beaches and hikes nearby. We can’t wait to bring our award-winning experience to Scarborough this summer,” Wallace said.

Allagash’s expansion into Scarborough has been highly anticipated. In 2022, the brewery announced its purchase of land within The Downs to build a new tasting room. However, opening this new tasting room inside an existing space directly across from the purchased land proved to be a better fit for now.

“Given the building costs and current market realities, using this already existing space at The Downs seems like a better way to move forward with our plans to expand to Scarborough in the immediate term,” added Tod. “While this new tasting room will be a pivot from our original plans at The Downs, we’re thrilled to be a part of the Scarborough community and invite people to come see what our new tasting space has to offer.”

The new location is expected to add 2 year-round, full-time positions and multiple seasonal positions to start, with hiring to take place in spring 2025. To keep up to date on career opportunities related to this new space, and Portland headquarters, keep an eye on www.allagash.com/careers/.
