SouthNorte Blends Cultures with New Agavemente Beer

SouthNorte Beer Co. transports craft beer fans to the crossroads of cultures through its unique perspective and flavorful brews. Building off the momentum of its Sea Señor Mex Lager and No Güey Mango IPA, SouthNorte is proud to announce the latest addition to its core lineup: Agavemente. As beer drinkers seek more interesting flavor profiles, SouthNorte is well-situated to deliver a flavor experience that bridges two cultures.

Agavemente captures the technical skills of a well-crafted lager, with the vibrancy and fun of a traditional Mexican beverage. Brewmaster Ryan Brooks was inspired by the refreshing bitterness of the agua de jamaicas he enjoyed on his trips to Baja. “Living in San Diego, it’s easy to find great aguas frescas on both sides of the borders. One of my favorites is the agua de jamaica because it’s not too sweet and has a beautiful color. I wanted to capture that essence in a beer.”

Agavemente is a traditional lager brewed with hibiscus and agave to give the beer a vibrant magenta hue and a crisp, dry finish. This category-defying beer is already garnering attention for its unique flavor profile. It took the bronze medal in the Specialty category at the industry’s prestigious Great American Beer Festival in 2017—proving that winners don’t always follow the rules.

“When Agavemente won at GABF last October, we knew we were on to something,” says Brooks. “We had people standing in line to try the beer, and we could hear them commenting on the amazing color. It’s exciting to have this beer available in cans so more people can share in the experience.”
