Second Annual SD Beer Weekend Set for June 9-11

The 2nd-Annual SD Beer Weekend presented by the San Diego Brewers Guild will take place Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 11. The now annual celebration of the local independent craft beer scene is a prelude to San Diego Beer Week in the fall. Limited-edition commemorative pint glasses featuring San Diego-themed artwork will be sold at participating breweries to highlight the festivities.

“With National Beer Day on Friday, April 7, we figured this was an opportune time to announce the dates,” said Brewers Guild Executive Director Paige McWey Acers. “Beer Weekend is simply another fun initiative we created to urge San Diegans to go out and support this great industry in our city. It serves as a great start to San Diego’s impeccable summer as well.”

Breweries throughout San Diego County will hold events and offer to-be-determined beer specials that are served in the pint glasses. Participating breweries includes Vista’s Eppig Brewing, Carmel Mountain’s Second Chance Beer Company, North Park’s The Original 40 Brewing Company, and Chula Vista Brewery. For the full list of participating breweries, visit www.sdbeer.com/sdbeerweekend.

The artwork on the pint glasses was created by local designer Tyler Cristobal, who graduated from San Diego State in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art and Graphic Design. Cristobal is the founder of Cristobal Design Company, a multidisciplinary studio.

SD Beer Weekend serves as a fundraiser, with Boelter, the maker of the glassware, donating a portion of the proceeds from pint glass sales back to the non-profit Brewers Guild.

The inaugural SD Beer Weekend in 2022 celebrated the Brewers Guild’s 25th anniversary. The number of independent craft brewery locations has grown to more than 150 from only 15 in 1997, a tenfold increase. San Diego County, known as The Capital of Craft™, has the most craft brewery locations among all counties in the United States.

San Diego County breweries won 37 medals, including 13 gold, at the 2023 Brewers Cup of California in March. The total is nearly double the 19 medals collected by local breweries at the 2021 competition.

Later in June, San Diego will serve as the site for 2023 Homebrew Con, a homebrewing conference and competition featuring more than 2,000 amateur and pro brewers. The 45th annual event, put on by the American Homebrewers Association and Brewers Association, will take place June 22-24 at the Town and County Resort in Mission Valley.
