Mother Road Brewing Company is proud to announce the release of Skylight City, a new dark mild seasonal offering brewed in honor of Flagstaff’s rich history of night sky preservation. The beer will officially debut on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Mother Road Tap Room.
At just 4.5% ABV and 23 IBUs, Skylight City is a beer crafted for easy enjoyment under Flagstaff’s star-laden skies. Garnet-hued with ruby flashes, this dark mild ale offers layers of toasty malt, gentle caramel sweetness, and a whisper of cocoa, all balanced by a soft, earthy hop presence. Smooth, flavorful, and endlessly approachable, Skylight City is a beer meant for conversation, contemplation, and looking up in wonder.
The name Skylight City draws from history, when Flagstaff was promoted as early as 1892 as the “Skylight City” for the clarity of its atmosphere. Today, that legacy continues through the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition, which has helped establish Flagstaff as the world’s first International Dark Sky City and a leader in protecting starry skies through responsible lighting practices.
“FDSC is delighted to partner with Mother Road to celebrate Flagstaff’s long history of celebrating and protecting our starry skies through this thoughtfully-crafted seasonal brew,” said Dr. Danielle Adams, a cultural astronomer and FDSC’s executive director. “We look forward to sharing pints with our community at Mother Road as we celebrate the night together.”
Mother Road’s release of Skylight City coincides with the annual Flagstaff Star Party and Celebration of the Night, a six-week series of events promoting Flagstaff’s dark skies and community connection, hosted by the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition in partnership with several organizations and businesses from the community.
As part of the celebration, Mother Road will host two special events at its Taproom:
Beer Release Party: Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Guests can enjoy $5 draft pours of Skylight City Dark Mild Ale from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
Stargazing Party: Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 7:00 PM. Members of the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition will set up telescopes on the Mother Road patio for an evening of stargazing paired with pints of Skylight City.
