König Brewing Systems may look like a new face in today’s brewery manufacturing landscape. However, if you look closely, they are not new at all. König Brewing Systems is led by industry veterans Brad McQuhae, founder and previous owner of Newlands Systems (NSI) and Balbir Sidhu, who was NSI’s VP of Engineering for 25 years. Together and with the help of over 100 wildly skilled team members over a span of 30-plus years, they built Newlands Systems into one of the most highly regarded and sought-after equipment manufacturers.
“When I stepped down as President and Owner of Newlands, I felt that I had grown the business as far as I could,” McQuhae said.
McQuhae believed that with the right investment and leadership, Newlands could exceed its current level of success allowing the brand to become more innovative and broaden its portfolio.
Most of us know how the story of Newlands Systems ended, and as the saying goes, hindsight is always 20/20.
“I cannot help but carry responsibility for the outcome that my choices had on NSI’s staff and customers,” McQuhae said, “We know we will have to work hard to prove ourselves again, but we are here to rise to that challenge.”
With Newlands no longer what it once was, and noticing that no one had taken its place, offering a full-service, high-quality custom equipment solution the pair teamed up again, and with no hesitation, König Brewing Systems was born. Knowing that the industry expectation would be high for them, McQuhae and Sidhu brought back several original core staff from NSI to help build a solid foundation for König. On April 1, 2019 they opened the doors once again at the original Newlands facility, 602 – 30731 Simpson Rd in Abbotsford, BC Canada.
“We are so excited to be back in this building,” McQuhae said, with the same exuberance a brewer would get from stepping onto their brewhouse platform for the first time.
“Our team of highly skilled industry experts allowed us to hit the ground running,” Sidhu added. “Everyone just knew what to do and got to work.”
One year in, and the König team is running full steam ahead, ready to do what they do best: build outstanding equipment that helps brewers produce delicious and award-winning brews. They know they cannot go back to the way it was, but they will strive to be better.
“It is our mission to achieve and exceed the aspirations and goals we had,” Balbir said. “I have full confidence that we have the minds, expertise, passion and drive to do remarkable things, and we cannot tell you how excited we are to take full advantage of this second opportunity.”
Whether you are looking for a 5-bbl starter system, a 120-bbl production brewery, fermentation /bright beer tanks up to 1,000-bbl, accessories, automation or parts and servicing, König Brewing Systems offers a complete range of services and products to support their customers from beginning to long after installation.
“Our promise is to be there for our clients every step of the way, always,” McQuhae said. “We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”
