Karl Strauss to Launch Tower X² DIPA

Karl Strauss, San Diego’s longest continuously operating post-Prohibition brewing company, will release Tower X² Double IPA on draft and in four packs of 16-oz cans this Thursday at its nine Southern California locations. With an 8.5% ABV, the beer is a stronger version of core beer Tower X West Coast IPA that was released last year with a 7.3% ABV. Brewmaster Paul Segura made the announcement.

A Tower X² release party will then be held on Thursday, June 20 at Karl Strauss’ The Outpost San Marcos beer garden from 3-7 p.m. Karl’s Block Party is free to attend, and it marks the third event in the brewery’s 35th anniversary celebration series. It also serves as a prelude to the third annual SD Beer Weekend, which takes place June 21-23.

All Karl Strauss beers will be $6 during Karl’s Block Party. The Karl Strauss Food Truck will be on hand selling special taco combination plates, while quesadillas will be available for kids. Fat Bottom Girl Bakes will also be on site selling desserts that are infused with Karl Strauss beer.

“Drinking a Tower X² is much simpler than solving an algebra problem, I can guarantee you that,” Segura said. “Nothing says San Diego summer like a thrilling beer that is sure to pack a punch.”

Tower X² has elevated notes of citrus and pine, a medium body, and a dry finish with a lingering citrus hop bitterness. Tower X was originally named in honor of collaboration partner 91X FM Radio and Karl Strauss’ origin story from Tower 10 in Mission Beach in 1989. 91X will broadcast live from The Outpost San Marcos during the release party.

Karl Strauss was voted as one of three Best Breweries/Brewpubs in San Diego in Ranch & Coast magazine’s 2024 Readers Poll. It has brewpub locations in Anaheim, Carlsbad, Costa Mesa, Downtown Los Angeles, Downtown San Diego, Temecula, and the 4S Ranch and Sorrento Mesa communities of San Diego.

“This continues to be a special year for Karl Strauss,” said Chief Experience Officer Jen Briggs. “We were the first San Diego brewery, we are still considered one of the best, and we continue to evolve to remain one of the best. Tower X² is yet another great way to enjoy our San Diego summer.”

The Outpost San Marcos is located at 1293 Armorlite Drive, only two blocks north of the 78 freeway off the Las Posas Road exit.

Tower X² will also be available at restaurants, bars, and retail locations throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada. Visit the brewery’s Beer Finder for more information.
