Illuminated Brew Works to Release Collaboration Black IPA with Weird Studies Podcast

Weird Studies Black IPA will be packaged next week at the brewery located in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago at 6186 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60631. This beer is the fruit of a collaboration with Illuminated brewmaster Brian Buckman, his team of beer alchemists, and the hosts of the Weird Studies Podcast. Weird Studies is a podcast about art and philosophy at the limits of the thinkable.

“This is the third year we are releasing this beer in collaboration with the Weird Studies podcast,” said Rick Julien, Sales Manager at Illuminated Brew Works.

Weird Studies Black IPA has a delicious roast and dark chocolate base. It is dry-hopped with Comet and Zappa hops and comes in at 5.3% ABV. Black IPA is a variation on the American IPA that uses darker malts to give it a unique flavor and appearance.

Each 4-pack features four unique images created by Buckman using MidJourney LLM image developer. They are a satirical homage to “Weird Tales” magazine as well as a nod to some of the many outré topics covered on the Weird Studies podcast.

“Black India Pale Ale, yes, is a contradiction in terms. Call it a Cascadian Dark Ale if you need to, either way, we love them,” Buckman said.

Weird Studies will be available at the Illuminated Brew Works tap room starting July 22. It will also be available at most Binny’s locations and at finer retailers throughout Northern Illinois. It will be available later next month in Downstate Illinois and in the Madison and Milwaukee areas of Wisconsin. Illuminated will also be pouring it at the Great Taste of the Midwest on the second weekend of August.

It will also be featured at Taggert’s “Lilly Dale Symposium”. For the second year in a row, Weird Studies Podcast Team is the keynote event at photographer Shannon Taggert’s “Lilly Dale Symposium” which has taken place in Lilly Dale, New York for the past 10 years.

IBW is sponsoring the closing night party at the Masonic Temple in Fredonia, New York.
