DuClaw brings Coffee-Infused Variation of Sweet Baby Jesus to Market

Sweet Baby Java is the first ever bottled variation of DuClaw’s iconic Sweet Baby Jesus. Kegs and cases of 12oz bottles will become available through Spring of 2017.

Craft beer lovers have come to identify Sweet Baby Jesus’ undeniable flavor profile as the benchmark in Peanut Butter brews. Now they’ll be offered an intriguing new evolution of the award-winning beer that has come to define the category.

The genesis of Sweet Baby Java occurred over two years ago at an event on the eastern shore of Maryland, said DuClaw’s founder Dave Benfield.

“We ran Sweet Baby through a Randall contact infuser filled with coffee beans and the response was awesome. The roasty flavor of coffee, peanut butter, and chocolate blended perfectly. We quickly kicked a half barrel.” Benfield recalled. “Since then we’ve regularly paired coffee with Sweet Baby at DuClaw events. From the consistent positive feedback we realized there needed to be a way to put this into a keg or bottle on a regular basis.”

The overwhelmingly positive reception was the catalyst that launched over a dozen pilot batches that eventually lead to Sweet Baby Java.

“We spent a lot of time searching for the ideal bean and roast to transform Sweet Baby Jesus into Sweet Baby Java,” Benfield said. “From there we were able to scale up and leverage our giant contact infuser, the Hop Gun, using coffee beans instead of hops, and now we have Sweet Baby Java.”
