Mother Road Brewing Connects with College Students

Flagstaff Arizona’s Mother Road Brewing Head Brewer Campbell Morrissy traded in production scale brewing for the teaching kitchen.

As part of Mother Road’s ongoing collaboration with Northern Arizona University, Campbell spent an afternoon brewing a batch of the brewery’s “Tower Station” IPA with the Northern Arizona Craft Beer Association, the university student group focused on all things craft beer.

“The club was amazed at how Tower Station has just taken off and we wanted to get the history of that, how did it happen and do a homebrew version,” said Mark Molinaro, chef lecturer at NAU and the club’s faculty advisor.

The students picked up new brewing techniques and learned how to replicate Mother Road’s IPA recipe on a smaller scale. The event also helped strengthen the connection between the university and local industry, which is always important when students start looking for careers after college, Mark said.

It’s worth noting that two former NAU craft beer club members went on to join the Mother Road team, so the benefit is mutual.
