Arizona’s Breweries Compete While Serving Suds in Downtown Scottsdale

Bad Water Brewing undertakes the second annual “Brewers Bowl” craft beer festival in Old Town Scottsdale on Saturday, February 6^th from 5 to 10 p.m. The first annual festival was a prime opportunity for Arizona breweries to showcase their creations to the locals and visitors enjoying the busy Super Bowl and Waste Management Open weekend. Attendance during the first annual event reached space capacity with over 2,000 festivalgoers. This year in much of the same fashion, the Brewers Bowl is timed in accordance with those events.

Designed to be a friendly competition, last year’s winner North Mountain Brewing Company with their Oatmeal Stout will receive a signature plaque as the trophy returns to Bad Water to await this year’s winner. Breweries participating in the festival are encouraged but not required to enter the blind tasting competition paneled by BJCP certified judges.

The Brewers Bowl trophy will be awarded in a best of show style judging session and presented during the event. According to Bad Water Brewing’s Founder, Lewis Kubitz, “Considerable time was spent last year building a foundation for this event, lots of consideration went into traveling to new Super Bowl cities, in the end we wanted to keep this an Arizona tradition with a possibility of expansion down the road”.

A portion of the proceeds will still benefit the Paradise Valley Emergency Food Bank, a food cooperative dedicated to providing emergency provision to the community’s hungry. Additionally, this year the Brewers Bowl plans to purchase some of the beer from brewers and distributors, keeping an eye on the mission to support the local beer business.

The Brewers Bowl will be held in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale near Bad Water Brewing’s Tap Room at 4216 N. Brown Ave., Scottsdale, Ariz., 85251. The festival will be set-up on Brown Avenue between 3^rd Avenue and 4^th Avenue, which will be closed to vehicle traffic. General admission is $35 dollars, and includes 20 beer-tasting tickets.
